1982-84 Manchester United home shirt

The 1982 season witnessed a subtle change to the home shirt, with the advertising slogan 'Sharp Electronics' being cut down to just 'Sharp'. They wore the same shirt (with sponsors name) for European and Cup matches, including the classics against Juventus and Barcelona. The rest of the kit stayed the same. The previous season's jersey was worn by the likes of Hughes, McGrath and Blackmore.

Man Utd Shirts 1984-1986

This is another away shirt with change in design throughout the decade with Adidas liking the v neck look. The most dramatic change was the 1984-86 shirts that saw United's badge move into the centre of the top and the Adidas logo appearing on the shirt sleeves. This design is still one of the fan's favourite United kits ever worn.

Man Utd Shirts 1980-1989

The 1980's was a start of a new era, not just at United, but in English football, as football shirts had sponsorship names and logos across the front. Manchester United and Sharp started their strong partnership in 1982, one which would last for eighteen years. United stuck with the same colours throughout the 80's having the traditional red home strip, white away shirt, and blue third kit. There was little change in design throughout the decade with Adidas liking the v neck look.

This less than memorable kit was worn by Lee Martin when he scored the winner against Crystal Palace in the 1980 FA Cup Final.

1993-1994 - Manchester United home shirt 'Replica"

Umbro's new United strip for 1993-94 had a stiffer black collar, suiting Monsier Cantona, who always played with his collar up. There was also a bigger, bolder club badge and, best of all, a "watermark" photograph of Old Trafford to scare off the now-massive bootleg market. It was exceptionally popular amongst match-going fans in pub conversations who could point at their rib cage and say, "I sit just to the left of there!" - Eric Cantona

History behind the jersey - The 1984 European Cup Final took place at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome on May 30, 1984. The match was between Liverpool F.C and AS Roma, with the stadium actually being Roma's home stadium and the site of Liverpool's first European Cup triumph. Liverpool won 4–2 in Penalty Shootout, after the match was drawn 1–1 after extra-time. This was Liverpool's fourth European Cup win, becoming only the second team to win 4 European Cups (This was later surpassed by A.C. Milan when they won their fifth trophy in in 1994). The victory gave Liverpool three trophies with the League Championship and the League Cup in Joe Fagan's first year in charge after replacing Bob Paisley the summer before. The final is particularly famous amongst Liverpool fans due to Bruce Grobbelaar's spaghetti legs antics during the shootout

Retro Shirt from the Classic Era 1979-1982 Hitachi Sponsored ShirtThe shirt that started the commercial ball rolling!

Although non-league side Kettering Town had experimented unsuccessfully with shirt sponsorship a few seasons earlier, in 1979 Liverpool signed a deal with Japanese hi-fi giants Hitachi and pulled on the first ever sponsored shirt worn by a professional club. However, the Hitachi shirt was only worn at non-televised games as strict TV regulations at the time prevented the inclusion of sponsors’ logos at matches in which the cameras were present.

The design of the kit itself (worn from 1976 to 1982) was a classic: confident and simple with red V-neck and cuffs and yellow logo and Liver bird badge.Worn in: Two European Cup final victories (77—78 and 80—81) and four successful league titles (76—77, 78—79, 79—80 and 81—82).
